Aquamarine – March Birthstone
Aquamarine is the blue-green or aqua variety of the mineral beryl. For many years beryl has been prized because its varieties include the valuable aquamarine and emerald. The beautiful aquamarine is found in many shades of blue. While the transparent, deeper blues and aquas are the most valuable, nugget and bead quality aquamarines are valued for their unique inclusions and opaque areas that lend interest.
Aquamarines can be found in many locations around the world, with the finest examples coming from Brazil. Other sources of aquamarines include Pakistan, Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Zambia, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, the Ural Mountains of Russia, and the United States. In the United States, aquamarines have been found in Colorado, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Vermont.
